Laser treatment at Dr. Laser is simple.  Just give us a call to arrange an initial free, no obligation consultation with one of our doctors.

You can also email our doctors directly for advice and information.  If you send us a query or a photo of your skin, our doctors will be able to give you specific, laser-related treatment advice.

At your first consultation, your doctor will explain everything you’ll need to know about the treatment process and answer any questions you may have.  We will also discuss how many treatment sessions you’ll need, and what it’ll cost.

If you are keen to continue with treatment, your doctor will ask for details of your medical background, and of any skin, healing or scarring issues you may have.  The treatment area will then be examined, checked for cancers, and a photo will be taken.  Your doctor will also laser a small test patch.

Treatment sessions are quick and simple, and are spaced approximately 4 to 10 weeks apart for maximum healing and effect.

Treatment consists of short bursts of laser light being applied to the skin with an Ultralase laser.  The sensation is often described as being like “flicks” or “flashes.”

At Dr. Laser, patient comfort is paramount.  Pain relief will be discussed in the first consultation, before anything is treated, with specific advice and directions given. Your doctor will monitor you throughout each session, tailoring treatment to your level of comfort.

The best results for removing altering or fading tattoos are achieved with laser treatments.  Laser, in the right hands, is highly effective and accurate.  Tattoos can be modified to your specifications or removed altogether.

At Dr. Laser, we use the Ultralase Nd:YAG Medical grade (IV) laser.  It is safe and effective.

As you know, tattoo ink, colours and ingredients vary greatly.  Our laser has by far the best effect on dark colours (black, dark browns, dark blues and dark greens) and reds.  It may fade other shades of colour to a level you desire but is unlikely to completely remove them.  Please email us a photo or come in for a free consultation to ask about your specific tattoo.

During treatment, only your tattoo ink will be affected by the laser bursts.  These break down the tattoo pigment by shattering it, so that your body can absorb and remove your tattoo gradually over the next few weeks.  The laser degrades colour only, and not the clear skin around it.

NB:  We are monitoring the laser market carefully to bring you a safe and cost-effective way of removing all tattoo pigments.  As soon as it’s available, we’ll have one. Watch this space!

Freckles, capillaries, and other pigmentation can be removed with little discomfort at Dr. Laser.

Using a combination of hyfrecation and the Ultralase laser, pulses of electricity or light are directed through the skin, targeting blood cells and pigmentation.  Different colours, sizes and depths of vessel or pigment require different treatments.  These will be discussed in detail during your first visit.

At Dr. Laser we use a q-switched Nd:YAG laser (the ‘Ultralase’ – widely used in the industry).  This emits a pulse that lasts for a few billion seconds and is highly attracted to specific pigments, selectively heating them.  Because the pulse is so quick, it also causes the pigment to shatter.  The particles of pigment are then absorbed and excreted by the body.  ‘Normal’ surrounding skin is left untouched.  The combination of the heating and shattering of pigment is both aggressive and highly effective.

Side effects include a longer recovery time as well as an increased chance of post-inflammatory change in skin pigment in the area.  This is uncommon when used by professionals.

A major benefit is that fewer treatments are needed to achieve the desired result and that the result is usually excellent.

We will go through everything in greater detail during consultations and tailor information to your specific skin and pigment.
